Education and Training Opportunities

The Amphibian Foundation offers three types of opportunities to get involved through Critter Camp, the most exciting and dynamic program we offer for children. While we are happy to offer opportunities for experienced educators, the Amphibian Foundation prides itself in its ability to provide opportunities for passionate and responsible individuals who are interested in expanding and beginning their experience.  To apply, simply email This email address is being protected from spambots. All three opportunities below are available at both Critter Camp locations: Decatur at the Friends School of Atlanta and in Atlanta at the Amphibian Foundation, located on the Blue Heron Nature Preserve. The commitments vary by position (see below) but Counselors in Training, Teaching Assistants, and Volunteers all need to assist in preparing for camp at 8:00 am and helping until after camp is over at 3pm (FSA) or 4pm (AF).

 

 

Counselor in Training (ages 14 - 18)

We train our CITs in education and animal handling to work hands-on with the animals and students. CITs assist the Lead Instructors with the lessons and activities, as well as help camp run smoothly.

At the successful completion of the training, CITs receive a Certificate of Training and a Letter of Recommendation for future positions at the Foundation and beyond. CITs are also eligible to continue volunteering, if desired, after the summer concludes.

Ages 14 - 18 (2 week commitment minimum)
* The CIT position is currently the only opportunity to volunteer with the Amphibian Foundation for those under the age of 18.

Teaching Assistants (ages 18 and up)

Teaching Assistants (ages 18 and up)

Teaching Assistantships are available for those interested in gaining valuable experience working with reptiles and amphibians, as well as teaching kids ages 4 - 14. Teaching Assistants help the Lead Instructors lead lessons and activities.

Although this is not a salaried position, there is a weekly stipend of $100 for Teaching Assistants. Preference for these positions is awarded to CIT graduates.

Volunteers are an essential part of Critter Camp, and we are always looking to include interested and passionate individuals in our programming. If you'd like to help with Critter Camp and get teaching experience while working with amphibians and reptiles, please reach out to ask about available opportunities to volunteer.
